Project Client: Royal Parks Commission
Brief: The gilding had to be stabilised and many of the areas restored as the monument is exposed to rain, wind and pollution. The damaged areas had to be prepared for the application of 23.5ct gold leaf. The corrosion and degeneration of the bronze cast were stabilised before the application of the gold leaf. An oil based size was carefully brushed on to the damaged areas and the fine sheets of gold applied. Gold leaf is resilient for many years and works very effectively on any metal surface the final result is one of eminent splendour.
