Brief: To consolidate, clean and restore the grisaille paintings in the drawing room. The Paintings were covered in a discoloured varnish which had a fine layer of soot. Soot can be very damaging as its corrosive nature gets into the fine cracks of the paint. The outer layer of soot was removed with a vacuum and dry cleaning with eraser powder was then completed before a tested solvent was finally used to remove the discoloured varnish. The original colours were revealed and the damaged, missing areas of the paintings were reinstated to their original form.
